Augmented Reality Materials

An Amazon.com search for Augmented Reality for Kids, or Augmented Reading Books, will show you a number of books, cards, and objects.  At this time it seems most of the materials are for elementary age and are science related but there are things for middle and high school and some of the materials deal with social studies, reading, and mathematics.  I would guess that as more educators learn about AR, we'll see lots of new materials for all grade levels and in all content areas.

One thing you should be aware of: the amount of AR content in these materials varies a great deal.  Some, like the ABC Animals Alphabet in Motion book by Sarina Simon has AR content on every page.  Others may have very limited AR content, perhaps only an interview with the author.

I've put together a brief list of AR materials below.  These are all available through Amazon.com.  A note about associated apps: each object has a linked app (described in the book or materials that come with the object.)  The apps are free and can be downloaded from Google Play or the App Store.  You may want to check and make sure the app works with your device.  So far, I've found that pretty much everything works on Iphones or IPads with a current OS.  Most apps work on Android phones and tablets such as the Galaxy ETab.

ABC Animals Alphabet in Motion, by Sarina Simon.  A children's alphabet book, the AR content consists of videos (with audio) linked to images and text on the page.

Animal 4D Flashcards, Dinosaur 4D Flashcards, and Space 4D flashcards, all from Octagon Studio.

This is pretty amazing.  Each card provides a 3D image of the dinosaur/animal/planet which can be viewed from various angles.  Some of the cards can be converted to 3D skeleton images, and can be "steered" to walk off the card and around the desk or table.

Sea Characters, Pet Party, and Daring Dinos Pop-up books, by Hal O Graham (appropriate name).  Each page (animal) links to an animated, 3D figure.

Drawing Princesses and Trolls, by Clara Cella and Lisa K. Weber.  This is a different approach from the materials listed above: this is an instructional book on drawing, and each page links to a video demonstrating the particular drawing skill shown on the page.

Smart Globe, by Dipper.  This is a physical object, an actual world globe, with AR content showing weather, animals, continents, and constellations.

Curiscope Virtuali-Tee: Educational Augmented Reality T-Shirt Anatomy, by Curioscope.  This is a t-shirt (several sizes available) that links to animated internal anatomy.
